Laurren Schmoyer the founder and CEO of Aquamain’s Fish World and Aquatic Experts has worked with tropical fish since he was 13 years old. A Florida native, he moved to High Point with his mother and two brothers in 1972. At the age of 13 he got his first job at a pet store. With his love for animals, Laurren decided to study Biology and earned his degree from UNCG. Also at UNCG, Laurren met his wife Elyse.
After graduating from college he searched for a career he could enjoy. Keeping fish aquariums both as a hobby and a job seemed like the ideal solution. Laurren, with the assistance of his wife, began servicing aquariums in Greensboro businesses. Because they were performing aquarium maintenance, they called their new service business Aquamain (Aquarium Maintenance). After a short time, the phone started ringing with simple fish-keeping questions and Laurren felt the area needed a knowledgeable aquarium store. Armed with ambition, no money and a baby on the way he decided to create one. In a family-owned space the tiny fish store (Aquamain’s Fish World) materialized early in 1985.
Since these meager beginnings, Aquamain’s Fish World has grown into one the largest aquarium stores in the Carolinas. Laurren offers over 25 years experience in the aquarium industry. He has grown his small retail aquarium store of 1,500 square feet into 10,000 square foot superstore. He has written for Pet Business magazine and published numerous educational materials for both his staff and his customers.
